Craven County, NC - Letters - Willie Rouse to Mary T. Smithey, dated April 4, 1879 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ April 4, 1879 Dear Cousin Mary T. Smithey I received your very kind letters two weeks ago and would have answered them sooner but have been going to School & have not had time. I was up set when I heard Sister was married. Why didn't she let me know something about it before. I don't think she has treated me right. You say she was a beautiful Bride. I don't know for I did not see her. Think she might have asked me to her weddind (wedding) ___ was as little as she could do. don't forget to tell me who married her & who stood up with her & I am much obliged to her for her kindness. she has been so good to me since I have been up hear (here) about writing to me & telling me all the news. I don't even know where she lives. will you please be kink (kind) enough to tell me. What is the matter with you all. have you all got the epioodic (epidemic) like we all had up hear (here). I tell you it is bad. it keeps you caughing (coughing) & sneezing all the time & worst of all, you can't dip snuff (ain't dat bad). why dident (didn't) you tell me that Man's name that such a long nose & chin. I wish ___ so I could go to see his meeting, but I can't not untill (until) School's up & if I should happen to take a notion to change ___ name you need not look for me then. What is that sweet-hearts ___ of yours that reminds you so much of a spotted _____. don't forget to tell me all about Susan Jane. Where she is & who goes to see her & where is Aunt Smithey. does she stay to Trenton now & who stays with her. Where is GrandMa & ____ & how are they both. has Johnnie got any better? Wher (where) is Nancy & her baby & how are they both & what has she named the little one! How is Grandfather. don't forget to tell me all about him. The Turkies have gone to roost. I too must go. give my love to all. P.S. I am staying at Mr. Dock Wallace going to school to Mrs. John Tull. Like it very much. Good bye.
