ARTHUR BOYCE, of Col. Patten's company, 2d battalion, born in the town of Edinburgh, in North-Britain, resided in King's-Town, Dobbs county, North- Carolina; five feet eleven and a half inches high, light brown hair, fair complexion, forty five years of age, a sergeant, deserted the 2d of December last at Trenton in the Jerseys. James Ives, born in Norfolk county, Virginia, and lived in Pitt county, North-Carolina, by trade a tanner, aged twenty-six years, five feet eight inches high, red hair, fair complexion, deserted at the Head of Elk the 12 h of December last. From Col Thomas Clark's company, 1st regiment, three soldiers, viz. John Burns, Martin Richard Cross, and Neil Blew. Burns deserted at Susquehanna Lower Ferry, is about five feet eight inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, supposed to have gone to Strawberry Ferry, or near Lancaster, where he was born; is much addicted to liquor, speaks much in the Irish dialect, and makes use of the word anan when asked any question; he is considerably pimpled in the face, which appears red by drinking, is about forty years of age, and supposed to have a forged discharge, as he formerly kept school, and was known to borrow paper the night he deserted. Cross deserted at Newport in Delaware, is a lad of about eighteen years of age, born in England, plays well on the fife, walks with his toes much out, a great reprobate in swearing, and is supposed to have gone to Philadelphia. Blew deserted in Philadelphia, was born in Holland, formerly brought up to the sea, is about five feet five inches high, light hair and complexion, a great braggadocio, and fond of shewing himself the man of importance. From Captain James Read's company, 1st battalion, Henry Zellers, about five feet six inches high, born near Lancaster in Pennsylvania, dark hair curled in the neck, speaks good English though of Dutch parents, a well fet fellow, pitted with the small-pox, is supposed to have a forged discharge, as he deserted from the Susquehanna Lower Ferry in company with one Burns, and it is probable they may continue together or nearly in the same neighbourhood. From Capt. John Summer's company, 1st regiment, Hugh Davis, deserted the 7th of December last, by trade a taylor, born in Wales, about five feet high, black hair cut short, black eyes, dark complexion, aged thirty-two years, was said to be gone 40 miles beyond Albany. From Lieut. Col. Harney's company, Thomas Garrot, deserted the 11th of December last from the Head of Elk, seventeen years of age, five feet eight inches high, born in Pasquetank county, North-Carolina, has black hair and fair complexion, supposed to be gone to the Nine Partners on the North River, in the State of New York. From Major Murfrie's company, John Harvey, deserted the 29th of December last, twenty-five years of age, about five feet nine inches high, brown hair, fair complexion, born in Virginia, by trade a taylor, plays well on the dolin, which instrument he is fond of; supposed to be gone towards the Head of Elk. From Captain John Ingles's company 2d battalion, Philip Penk-m, deserted the 29th of December last, aged about twenty-seven years, about five feet eight inches high, fair complexion, round shouldered, born in Craven county, North Carolina, and supposed to be gone to the Head of the Elk. Also William Griffin, aged twenty-two years, five feet seven inches high, fair complexion, born in Pasquetank, North-Carolina, supposed to be gone to the above place. The above two men deserted in regimentals. From Lieut. Col. Davidson's company, John Connaway, twenty four years of age, five feet eight inches high, black hair, black eyes, born in Ireland, and supposed to be gone to Tapan. From Capt. G. John M'Rees's company, Thomas Baker, thirty-six years of age, five feet five inches high, American born, of a swarthy complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, and supposed to be gone to Philadelphia, in which place he has a brother. Every person apprehending any of the above deserters and delivering him into any goal, or to any Continental officer, so that he may be secured, shall receive ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS reward, and ONE DOLLAR for each mile such deserter shall be conducted from the place where taken to the place where delivered, on producing a receipt from the Gaoler or Officer to the subscriber, or nearest D Q.
