Inf., Ctf. # 601,524; you are requested to return this letter with copy of soldier's personal description. No. 664861 Ruel WETHERINGTON Co. F 1st. N.C. Inf. Sir, I have the honor to request that you will furnish from the records of the War Department a full Report as to the service, disability, and hospital treatment of Ruel WETHERINGTON, who, it is claimed, enlisted Jun. 13th, 1864, and served as private in Co. F, 1st, Reg't. N.C. Inf.; also in Co. ---- commanded by Captain David G. LUKE and was discharged at New Berne, N.C., June 27th, 1865. While serving in Co. F. 1st, Reg't, N.C. Inf., he was disabled by rheumatism contracted at Beaufort, N.C. in the winter of 1864 and at Beaufort, N.C. in Spring of 1864 contracted diarrhea and was treated in hospitals of which the names, location, and dates of treatment are as follows: Please search Regimental Hospital records. Very respectfully, John BLACK, Commissioners. Return for March 64 of 2 N.C. Inft. Is not on file, May 64, absent in Genl. Hospital. Regtl. Hospital Records of either organization not on file. Prisoner of War Records, show him captured at Newbern, N.C.; February 2, 1864; as --- "F" 2nd N.C. Inf.; appears on list of prisoners captured (as above) signed by Walter HARRISON, Inspector General (C.S.A.) dated Head Qrs. Dept. N.C. Kinston, N.C.; Insp. Genl's Office, Febry, 8, 64 with remark "Tried and sentenced, Branded & labor during the war." Conf'd. at Richmond, Va.; February 11, 64; where he was admitted to Hospital No. 21, April 4, 64; treated for "Bronchitis Il." Paroled at Leiby? Point, Va.; April 16, 64, admitted to Wests Building Hospl. Balto., Md.; same day cause not state, present there May 7, 1864. No further information on said records. The records of this office furnish no further evidence of disability. War Department Adjutant General's Office Washington, Nov. 8, 1888 Respectfully returned to the Commissioner of Pensions. Ruel WETHERINGTON, a private of Company F, 2nd Regiment, N.C. Infantry. Volunteers, was enrolled on the 13 day of January, 1864, at New Bern, 3 years and is reported: on roll to Feb. 29/'64, at Beech Grove, N.C.; at which date & place Co. was in action. Same to April 30/'64; May & June '64, absent in Genl. Hospital Annapolis, Md. Since April 12/'64. Same to Aug. 31/'64, Sept. & Oct. '64, present-Roll of Co. "C" same Regt. To which transferred for Nov. & Dec.'64, reports him present. Roll of Co. "F" 1st N.C., Inf. To which transferred for Jan. & Feb. '65, reports him present. Same to April 30/'65. Muster out roll of Co. dated New Bern, N.C. June 27/'65, reports him prvt., mustered out with Co. at that date and place. Record and Pension Office War Department Washington, D.C.
