CRAVEN COUNTY, NC - MILITARY - Roster of Dead Confederate Veterans ----¤¤¤---- The following newspaper article was extracted from the Elizabeth Moore Papers, Manuscript Collection 322, J. Y. Joyner Library, East Carolina University, Greenville. Permission to publish granted. May 6, 1924 Confederate Dead to be Honored Thursday by the Local U. D. C. Roster of the Craven Chapter shows 174 Confederate Veterans in Private grounds in the county; Hon. A. W. McLean to deliver address, daughters and children of the Confederacy to decorate the graves. One hundred and seventy-four veterans of the War between the states are buried in private cemetery lots in Craven County according to the Roster of the honored dead given out yesterday by the Craven Chapter, Daughters of the Confederacy. This list is as near complete as it has been possible for the organization to make it however, Mrs. T. A. Uzzell, the president, asks for any corrections and additions that local people may contribute. On Thursday of this week the graves of the Confederate dead will be decorated as part of the annual Memorial Day program and flag and flowers will be placed on them in loving remembrance by the children of the Confederacy. One of the features of the program being arranged by the Daughters will be the Memorial Day address by Hon. Angus W. McLean of Lumberton.
