Craven County, NC - Joseph Green - Revolutionary Service ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Delamar Extracts, Pgs 1-200 Legislative Papers Relating to Revolutionary Service NC Archives Joseph Green. Petition humbly sheweth that he drew in the month of July 1780 seven hundred thousand pounds from the Treasury in New Bern by order of Gov'r Nash, that in August following on his retreat from the defeat of General Gates near Camden in South Carolina, he was taken prisoner with the greater part of the above sum, which sum after being taken was given to your petitioner by say of division, that your petitioner has been at great pains and has passed the whole of the above said sum to the credit of this State without depreciation in the Acc'ts with the United States, that two hundred thousand pounds of the said money did depreciate in his hands, and part of which still remains in his hands. Your Petitioner humbly pray that your Honorable body will take his case in consideration and grant such relief as shall be just. That is the depreciation of it until he returned to the State from captivity. Your petitioner was exchanged in Charles Town the 12th Feby. 1781 and returned to this State about the last of said month. 22d Nov 1797 In Senate 1st December, 1797, read and referred to the Treasurer and Comptroller to report on.
