KENNEDY, suddenly on the 3rd. Md 1) Lizzie WOOTEN d/o John C. WOOTEN; ) Alice JACKSON, who survives him. He was about 47 years old. Buried at the old homestead of his father in Falling Creek township on July 4. Confederate Veterans of Craven convened on 4th of July at courthouse in New Bern. July 10, 1889, Wednesday, vol. viii, no. 85 Confederate Veterans' Assn of Onslow met on 4th July. A. C. HUGGINS was called to the chair and Wm. T. COX was appointed secretary. The following ladies rec. to State Veterans' Assn to solicit subscriptions for a Soldiers' Home. Richlands: Mrs. E.L. FRANKS, Mrs. S.B. TAYLOR Stump Sound: Miss Bettie DIXON, Mrs. E.H. WARD Died on Bear Creek, Onslow County, of dropsy of the bowels, on Monday the 8th inst., after a painful and lingering ill ness of over twelve months, Mrs. Henrietta J. RIGGS, wife of Mr. John B. RIGGS, in the 85th year of her age. Left "bereaved husband and four smart children." July 11, 1889, Thursday, vol. viii, no. 86 Maj. W.A. BLOUNT and wife of Chocowinity arrived in the city yesterday. July 12, 1889, Friday, vol. viii, no. 87 "Sheriff E. MURRILL of Onslow county was in the city yesterday and brought news of the death of A.J. MURRILL, which occurred at his home on Monday, July 1st, very suddenly. Mr. MURRILL was in his 71st year. He was a man of prominence in the county and had a large number of warm friends outside the county. Previous to the war he was clerk and master of the court of equity; he represented the county several times in the general Assembly, and has been chairman of the board of county commissioners since the war. He was a man of great force of character and individuality, and discharged the duties of every position which the public called him to all with fidelity. The county has lost a good man." July 14, 1889, Sunday, vol. viii, no. 89 Frank THOMPSON, Esq., superintendent of public instruction of the county of Onslow, is in the city. He has just held a successful county teachers institute for the teachers of his county with Capt. M.C.S. NOBLE to assist him. He says it was well attended and great good was accomplished. July 23, 1889, Tuesday, vol. viii, no. 96 "Died at 3 p.m., Monday, July 22d, Mary BRYAN, mother of Mary Ann STARKEY, aged 102 years. The funeral will take place from her residence on Neuse Street this Tuesday evening at 4 o'clock. Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend." August 2, 1889, Friday, vol. viii, no. 105 Mrs. R.W. BERRY and family have returned from Morehead City. August 8, 1889, Thursday, vol. viii, no. 110 "Married on the afternoon of the 7th inst., at the residence of Mrs. BOYD, Mr. Lemuel PEARCE of Philadelphia, to Miss Florence BRINSON of this city, Rev. H.W. BATTLE officiating." From Onslow County . . . Considerable disease sickness in our county now; dysentery is the dread disease. Several have died in the last month, many are down, bad off now. Mrs. D.J. SANDERS, Wm. BELL, J.J. WARD and many others, with Mrs. WYNNE, Misses Nannie HEWITT and Katie ROBERTS, Mrs. H. THOMPSON and others. The doctors don't seem to cure or stop the disease much. Capt. A.C. MOORE lost two of his children, Mr. A. ODUM one, Mr. A. JONES one, and several others lately. August 18, 1889, Sunday, vol. viii, no. 119 New Berne Dist. Sunday School Conference held at Kinston August 16. Among members: from Craven Co. W.B. PEARCE August 23, 1889, Saturday, vol. viii, no. 124 Masonic funeral of Bros. R.F. PELLETIER and A.J. MURRILL will take place Sunday after the 3d Saturday in September. Buried in or near the same graveyard. August 27, 1899, Tuesday, vol. viii, no. 126 Mr. E. M. FARNELL died in this place [Swansboro] last Saturday, the 17 inst., of dysentery aged about 65 years. November 28, 1889, Thursday murder of George W. WINBERRY of Onslow December 20, 1889, Friday, vol. viii, no. 223 Mr. Richard BERRY of this city [New Berne] yesterday received a telegram from Hartford, CT, announcing the sudden death of his brother Mr. Wm. BERRY, on the 19th inst. Connected with Aetna Ins. Co. of Hartford. Was a resident of our community before the war. January 5, 1890, Sunday, vol. viii, no. 235 Hill HUMPHREY ("Big Ike") left yesterday for Onslow County. We know he will be warmly received . . . working hard to get a railroad from here to Jacksonville. January 19, 1890, Sunday, vol. viii, no. 247 Onslow Co: Mr. C. B. FRAZZELL is teaching school at Brown Sound Academy. February 7, 1890, Friday, vol. viii, no. 263 DIED at La Grange, N.C. on Tues. Feb. 4, 1890 of congestion of the brain, at 8 o'clock p.m. E. E. WARD, son of Dr. E. W. and Mrs. H.J. WARD of Onslow Co. He was born Oct 6th 1875, and was sergeant in Co. E (Davis Battalion) at Davis H.S. at the time of his death. Ned was a good boy . . . April 28, 1890, Wednesday, vol. ix, no. 20 DIED at White Oak, Onslow County April 22, 1890, Mrs. Susan GIBSON, aged 76 years. May 9, 1890, vol. ix, Jones Co: Mr. and Mrs. F.H. FOY had the misfortune to lose their little infant boy, aged about 2 months on Sunday, the 27th ultimo. Sept. 16, 1890, Tuesday, vol. ix, no. 43 Mr. Thomas BELL died at his home near Jacksonville Tuesday, 9 instant, aged abt 75. Leaves several children, all daughters. Sept. 24, 1890, Wednesday, vol. ix, no. 150 Died at her home near Swansboro, Onslow county, on Thursday the 18th inst., after a lingering illness of nearly a year, from disease and general debility Miss Mary A. SHUTE, aged 53 years. . . A native of Craven but last 4 or 5 years lived in Onslow. Lived with 2 sisters all maiden ladies. Their good brother, who died about 1 year ago at the age of 60 years was a confirmed bachelor. Burial 20 Sep in Swansboro. Oct. 11, 1890, Saturday, vol. ix, no. 168. On the 6th inst. In the Seventh year of his age George Robert SANDLIN, son of H.H. SANDLIN died - a bright lovely boy. Nov. 8, 1890, vol. ix, no. 193. Died of paralysis after a week's illness at her residence in Onslow Mrs. Sidney E. GEROCK, wife of Mr. Charles GEROCK in the 82d year of her age. Member Methodist Church.
