TEN DOLLARS REWARD Absconded from the Subscriber, on Saturday, the 5th instant, an Apprentice, named JOHN PARKER, about five feet seven or eight inches high; red Hair, and skin much freckled. He has worked with me for a considerable time, at the Cabinet makers business, and is very artful. I have reason to believe, he is gone to Wilmington, to ship on board some vessel. I do hereby, forbid all Masters of vessels from harboring, employing, or carrying him off at their peril. Newbern, September 16, 1807 At a meeting of the Union Light Infantry Company of Newbern, Wednesday 9th Sept, 1807. The intention of the meeting being made known, a committee consisting of WILLIAM EATON, JOHN D. FRIOU, ADAM SCOTT, JOHN DEWEY and BENJAMIN C. GOOD, were appointed, who reported the following Resolutions, which were unanimously adopted — Resolved, That this Company have noticed with extreme indignation, the repeated insults and outrages, committed on our government and country; and that we consider it our indispensable duty to step forward at all times in defense of the same. Resolved, That we hold ourselves in readiness to march at a moments warning to execute the orders of our Commander in Chief, and that we hereby tender to the President of the U. States, ;our services, and pledge our lives and property to assist to the utmost of our power in repelling any insolent foe. Resolved, That the Captain of this Company forward a copy of the foregoing Resolutions to the President of the U. State, the Secretary of War, and to the Governor and Adjutant General of this state. FRIOU, merchant of this place. — The death of this young man was very sudden; he had for a considerable time laboured under a severe indisposition. He eat supper as usual on Monday evening, and on the next morning was found dead. His funeral was attended by Capt. EATON's company of Volunteers, of which he had been a member. MORGAN JONES The subscriber lately purchased a Negro fellow by the name of WILL, of a Mr. JOHN HOGAN of Georgia, which fellow was at the time of purchase a Runaway, and still continues to. — He is of a very dark complexion, about 5 feet, 6 or 7 inches high, and well set; having legally outlawed said fellow in Onslow, I will give a Reward of 50 dollars for his head if he should be killed or 40 dollars if he is brought to me alive, or so secured that I may get him. WAS TAKEN UP, AND committed to the Jail in Newbern, on the 25th of August, 1807, a Guinea Negro, named PETER, about 5 feet 4 inches high. He cannot pronounce his Master's name, so as to be understood, nor give any formation, which might lead to a knowledge of the place where he belongs. He is about 25 years of age; has several marks on different parts of his body, the most conspicuous of which, are on his left side and arm: two of his upper foreteeth are out.
