Four men who were working in a field sought shelter from the storm in a house. Lightning struck the house and killed one of the number, James Averett, and severely wounded his son. LeRoy Dixon and a son were stunned by the shock and were unconscious for more than an hour. Their horse was killed. The house was burned. Telephone and telegraph wires have been wrecked.
