JOHN MARVIN SMITH

   John Marvin Smith, 69, of New Bern, N.C., died in the Duke University 
Hospital, Durham, early Wednesday morning , November 28, after a week’s illness. 
The funeral was conducted the following afternoon at 3 o’clock from the 
Riverside Methodist Church, New Bern, by the pastor, Rev. W.N. McDonald, and 
Rev. A.E. Brown of Goldsboro, N.C., a former pastor. Interment was in Cedar 
Grove Cemetery, New Bern.

   The deceased was born in Southampton County, a son of the late John A. Smith 
and Antoinette Simmons Smith. He was member of the Riverside Methodist Church, 
New Bern, and a charter member of the Doric Lodge, A.F. and A.M.  He served two 
terms on the New Bern Board of Aldermen.

   Surviving are his wife; five sons, Wallace Smith of Los Angeles, Calif., Earl 
A. Smith of Raleigh, N.C., and Marvin Ronald, R. Clyde and Leo Smith of New 
Bern; one brother, Arthur H. Smith of Yanceyville, N.C.; and four sisters, Mrs. 
Seith Atkinson of Franklin, Mrs. G.S. Waite of Richmond, Mrs. N.L. Lea of 
Greensboro, N.C., and Mrs. H.S. Clark of Boston, Mass.
