  April 20, 1808   Edenton Gazette
   DIED, in Edenton, on the 15th inst., BENJAMIN WOODS ESQ., of Newbern, 
Attorney at Law and United States Attorney for the North Carolina District. 
His remains were followed to the silent tomb by most of the respectable 
inhabitants of Edenton, whose unaffected grief is the best eulogy which can be 
paid to his memory. The narrow limits of a newspaper are insufficient to do 
justice to the character of this good man: We will merely observe, that his 
professional knowledge was only surpassed by the goodness and benevolence of 
his heart, and the affability and gentleness of his disposition. With peculiar 
propriety he might adopt the language of a pious Job. "When the ear heard me 
then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me it gave witness to me, because I 
delivered the poor that cried, the fatherless, and him that had none to help 
him"
