June 5, 1936 Memorial Obituary Entered Into Eternal Rest Friday June 5, 1936 In Memoriam On Friday evening June 5, 1936, the angel of death visited the home of Mrs. H.T. White and bore away to a final resting place, her husband, Mr. Henry Thomas White, better known to his friends as "Tobe". He had finished his days work and after eating supper suffered a heart attack and lived only 40 minutes. He was a devoted husband and father and a good neighbor. He was ever ready to render any assistance he could to suffering humanity, always doing his bit to make others happy. Mr. White was thrice married. His first wife, Miss Laura Dorety lived only a short while after they were married. In October 1891, he married Miss Deborah Hawkins. To this union was born the following children: W.W. White, New Bern,N.C; R.W. White,Hopewell Va; Guy White, Rocky Mount; Paul White, Raleigh; Henry T. White Jr., Dunn N.C.; Earl W. White, Washington, D.C.; and Larry, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; A. U. White, California; C.O. White, Charleston, W.V; and Mrs. N.W. Creech of Selma. On June 2, 1920, Mr White was married to Miss Viola Morgan of Selma, who with two sons Morgan McCoy and George Herbert survive. Mr. White was a member of Edgerton Memorial Methodist Church. Funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon June 7, conducted by his pastor Rev. F.B. Peele, and assisted by Rev. D.M. Clemmons of the local Baptist church and by Rev. D.P. McGeachy, of Decatur, Georgia. Music was furnished by the Methodist choir. Pallbearers were G.F.Brietz, H.H. Lowry, M.R. Wall, W.T. Woodard, O.A. Tuttle and Howard Gaskill. Honorary pallbearers were; J.T. Hughes, John Morgan. Dick Lewis, Ernest Deans, Oscar Creech, and Paul Warren. The flower girls were Nora Wilson, Ruby Creech, Pansy Jones, Lorena Morgan, Hazel Lane, Annie Mae Lane, Martha Dupree, Esther Mae Hamilton, Hilda Hamilton and Mrs. Frances H. McGreachy. He was laid to rest in the Selma Cemetery under a mound of beautiful flowers sent by sorrowing relatives and friends. Mr. White was born at Cove City, Craven County, June 23, 1871 and was the only child of Reuben and Sarah White. He came to Selma January 1, 1918.
