Caleb & Maria HOOTEN of Craven Co., NC to John GILDERSLEEVE, heir of Maria 
HOOTEN’S father George LANE in division of his estate.
1 Jan 1834

This Indenture made and executed this first day of January in the year One 
Thousand Eight Hundred and thirty four between Caleb HOOTEN and Maria his 
wife of the one part and John GILDER SLEEVE of the other part, Witnesseth 
that the said Caleb HOOTEN and Maria his wife for an din consideration of 
one dollar to them and each of them in hand paid by the said John as given 
before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof they 
do hereby acknowledge and from the further payment whereof they have 
released the said John they the said Caleb and Maria his wife have given, 
granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do give, grant, bargain 
and sell unto the said John GILDESLEEVE and his heirs and —— one certain 
tract or parcel of land situate on the road leading from Newbern to Pembroke 
and containing fifteen acres, beginning in the line of the land belonging to 
John R. DONNELLS and running South two degrees and thirty minutes? West 
thirty two poles (S 2’ 30” West) thence East one hundred and forty six poles 
(146 /2) to DONNELLS line then along DONNELLS to his corner thence to the 
beginning containing fifteen acres and being the land allowed to Maria 
HOOTEN in the division of the land of her father George LANE as by reference 
to said division returned and filed in the office of the Clerk of Craven 
County Court will more fully appear. To have and to hold said tract of land 
with its appurtenances to the said John GILDERSLEEVE his heirs and assigns 
forever. In witness where of the said Caleb & Maria his wife have hereunto 
set their hands and seals the day and year first above written.
