I, John Carraway of the county of Craven and province of North Carolina, planter, being sick and weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, therefore calling into mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say. Principally and firs of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it; and for my body, I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my Executors, nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God; and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give and devise and dispose of it in the following manner and form. Item, I give and bequeath to my three sons, Thomas Carraway, John Carraway and Edward Carraway, a Negro man called Charles, to them and their heirs forever. Item, I give and bequeath to my three sons Thomas Carraway, John Carraway, and Edward Carraway, a Negro woman called Grace, to they and their heirs forever, for the said Negro hath her liberty to live with any one of the three as it suited her. Item, I give and bequeath to my son John Carraway, all my wearing clothes. Item, I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Carraway, two cows and calves, to him and his heirs forever. Item, I give and bequeath to my son John Carraway, one hand mill, to him and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my son Edward Carraway, all my hogs, to him and his heirs forever. Also I leave all the remaining part of my estate to be equally divided amongst my three sons. And I do hereby constitute and appoint my two sons Thomas Carraway and John Carraway, my only and sold Executors of this my last will and testament. And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments, wills, legacies, and executors by me any wise before this time named, willed and bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
