I, Nathaniel Carraway, being sick and weak of body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God, but calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, to make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say: First, I give my soul to God that gave it me; and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of Executors, not doubting but but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God; and what worldly estate it has pleased God to bless me with, I give the same in the following manner and form, Imprimis, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Carraway, the use of all my property that shall not be be hereafter mentioned, during her natural life or widowhood. Item, I leave my son-in-law, John Balance, all that I have given him, by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed. And I also give to his son, Davis Balance, after the death of my wife, one heifer, by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever. Item, I give to my son Joshua Carraway, one feather bed, one cow and calf that he has now in possession. I also give him four head of sheep now, and one large pewter dish after the death of my wife, all by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever. Item, I give to my son Nathaniel Carraway, seventy-five acres of land in the swamp, to him and his heirs, by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever, only my wife is to have equal part of the timber on the said land during her widowhood. I also give him one feather bed and furniture, one two year old heifer, two sows and pigs, all of which he has in possession, by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever. Item, I give to my daughter Sarah Clayton, one cow and calf, one feather bed and furniture, and one linen wheel, by her freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever. Item, I give to my daughter Elizabeth, one feather bed and furniture, one heifer, and also I give her two sows and pigs, and one woolen wheel, after the death or widowhood my wife, all by her freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever. Item, I give to my daughter Mary Carraway, one feather bed and furniture, and one heifer, and also one woolen wheel, one linen wheel and one flax hackle, after the death or widowhood of my wife, all by her freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever. Item, I give to my son Levi Carraway and Denis Carraway, all the land and plantation whereon I live, after the death or widowhood of my wife, to be equally divided between them, to them and their heirs, to be freely possessed and enjoyed forever. Bit if either of my sons, Levi or Denis, should die without lawful issue, then my will and desire is that my son Asa Carraway, shall have his part of the said land, to him, his heirs, freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever. Item, I give to my son Levi Carraway, one feather bed and furniture, after the death of my wife or widowhood, by him to be possessed and enjoyed forever. Item, I give to my son Dennis Carraway, one feather bed and furniture, after my wife’s death or widowhood, by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever. And I do nominate and appoint my beloved wife Mary Carraway, Executrix, and my beloved sons Joshua Carraway and Nathaniel Carraway, Executors to this my last will and testament. And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other wills or bequests, executors or executrix before willed or named by me, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and date above written. Item, I gave to my son Joshua Carraway, after the death or widowhood of my wife, one desk, by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever. Item, I give to my daughter Elizabeth Carraway, after the death or widowhood of my wife, one loom, by her freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever. Item, I give to my three daughters, all my slays and gears, after the death or widowhood of my wife, by them freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever. Nathaniel (X) Carraway Will was proven in open court at the March term of 1795 by the oath of Thomas Sparrow, with Nathan Carraway qualifying as Executor.
