Craven County, NC - Captain John Daly, Estate, Division of Slaves, 1796 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Note: The following list has been compiled by combining information found in two separate lists of the the slaves belonging to Captain John Daly (d. August 17, 1796) of Craven County. The first list divides his slaves among his heirs and includes the value of each slave; the second list gives the age of each slave. The original lists can be found in the estate papers of John Daly, CR 028, 508.32, North Carolina Archives, Raleigh, NC. We whose names are hereto subscribed, being mutually chosen by Mrs. Ann G. Daly, Mr. Robert Donnell, & Mr. John Sears for themselves and the infant representatives of John Daly, esquire, deceased, to whom Mrs. Daly, and Mr. Donnell are guardians, have divided and appropriated the Negroes belonging to John Daly esqr. decd. among them as follows: To Mrs. Ann G. Daly Jim, age 36, valued at 120 pounds Jinny, age 30, valued at 100 pounds Mingo, age 14, valued at 40 pounds Ned, age 10, valued at 80 pounds Kitt and Rose, very old, age 60, valued at 30 pounds Jude, age 70, being old and infirm, we consider an incumbrance, and deduct from the above valuation five pounds Total value, 365 pounds To Mr. Robert Donnell Binah, age 35, valued at 100 pounds Jenny, age 14, valued at 60 pounds Peg, age 10, valued at 55 pounds Dick, age 4, valued at 20 pounds Note: These four Negroes were in the possesssion of Mr. Donnell before the death of Mr. John Daly Sam, age 25, valued at 125 pounds Ned & Hannah, age 70, valued at 10 pounds Jack Rush, no age given, being blind, we consider an incumbrance, and we deduct from the above valuation 10 pounds Total value, 370 pounds To John Sears esqr.
