All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Leslie Fowlkes littlefowlkes@aolcom July 22, 2009, 9:24 am Source: North Carolina Wills Written: December 12, 1775 Recorded: 1776 Last Will and Testament of John Fookes 1775 In the name of God Amen- The twenty fourth of the 12 month called December I John Fookes of Craven County in the province of North Carolina planter being in a poor state of helth But of sound Mind and Memory thanks be given unto the Almighty God for calling to mind mortality of my body and knowledge that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my Last will testament that is to say principally & first of all I Desire to give up and recommend my soul whenever I am changed from this mortal to immortality unto the hands of God that give it and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named- And as touching such worthy (or worldly) estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life and give ___ and Dispose of the same in the following manner and form- First that all my just Debts and Funeral Charged be paid by my said? Item I send to my well beloved wife Mary Fookes my Dwelling Plantation and all of my stock and estate to her widowhood and if she mares(marries) the Estate to be equally Divided between my 6 Children Tabitha James John Margaret Joseph and Daniel- Also I give to my Elds. Dafter (daughter) Elisabeth Williams won(one) shilling Starlen being all that I can afford her with what she has already secured. Item- I give and begrave to my son John Fookes one tract or parcel of land on the hed of Brices Creek none (known) by the name of Mchorins- I constitute make and ordain my beloved wife and son James Fookes my sole Excters: of this my last Will and Testament and do hereby utterly Revoke and Disannul every other former testament wills legacies & Begrives & Executors by me in any way before named wills confirming this and no other to be my last will and Testament in writing and whereof I have set unto my hand The day above written signed sealed in the presence of us Tested Absalom Taylor William Ives John Fookes March Craven Inferior Court 1776 Present his Majestys Justices The afforgoing Last Will and Testament of John Fookes Decd.
