The original is written by Charles King with a "true copy taken and examined by Pett Conway?? This is the version written by Charles King himself with exact spelling, capitalization and punctuation. The copy has "corrected" spelling. The inventory of the deceased Charles King was taken 9 Oct 1760. In the name of God Amen the 14 day of June in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty nine, I Charles King of the County of Craven in the provence of North Carolina Planter being in health but weak in body but of Perfect mind and memmory thanks be to God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die Do make ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the hand of God and for my body I recommend to the Earth to be Buried in a Christian like and decent manner. At the discrestion of my executor nothing doupting but the at the general ressurection I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power of God and as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life. I give and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. IMPRIMIS I give and bequeath to Mary my dearly beloved wife fifty acres of my land which the manor plantation stands on for her use in during her widowhood and after her marriage or decease to the child she is with at this time If a son if not to my son Robert King and his heirs and assigns forever. I do appoint my loveing wife and Wm Hardy Bryant to be my executor and executrix. Item I give to my Sonn Samuel King one Shilling Sta rling being his full parte of his Estate with what he has had Item If the child my wife is with be a son , then my son Robert is to have fifty acres of land joining the lower side of the manner land and if the child be not a son them the above said Item East fifty acres I give my Son Charles King and his heirs and assignes and if the child be a son then I give to my Son Charles King six pounds ten shillings to be levied out of my estate in lieue of the said land Item I give and bequeath to my Son John and my son James one hundred acres of land to be equally divided between them which is on the upper side of the manner land to them thear herars and assignes forever Item I give and bequeath to my son in law Jehosapat Shingleton four pounds of proclamation money to be levied out of my estate Item I leave all my remainder part of my moveables both goods and chattels for the use of my wife for to raise the children with all in during her widowhood and after her marriage if she marrieth to be equally divided all the children that is under her care. And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannull all and every other former testament signed wills and executions by me in any way before this time named willed and bequeathed ratifying and conforming this and no other to be my last will and testament In ______?
