This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Martha Marble mmarble@erols.com ==================================================================== WILL OF JOHN LENFIELD - found at NC Archives written 28 March 1766 - John Lenfield - unto beloved wife Elizabeth a negro girl named Fillers (?) and all the movebles not belonging to the estate exceptioning one spice mortar, one pair of irons and ? , one pair of spoon moulds, one ladle and one mare running in Board Creek woods branded. Also three cows at my place at Goose Creek at the plantation where William Keaton lives, one cow running where Richard Hill lives, one cow running at the plantation where I now live called Lenfields' ferry. I give to my son Francis Lenfield the plantation where I now live known by the name of Lenfield Ferry containing 650 acs. In case my son Francis should die without heirs then it is my desire that Levi Hill and Richard Hill son of Richard Hill, my brother in law, shall equally divide the said plantation between them. Should they die without heirs and I wish everything to be sold and the amount be divided between Susannah Hill, Ruth Barrington and Lydia Linfield. I give my beloved wife the plantation whereupon Richard Hill liveth for her lifetime and after that to her son, that is to say, my son Francis Lenfield. Should Francis die without heirs, wife to dispose of property as she wishes. I give to my brother in law Richard Hill 150 acs lying in Craven Co at Goose Creek being part of a patent granted in 1765. To beloved son Francis 350 acs in Craven where Mr. Keaton (?) now lives. To son Francis one negro fellow slave when he arrives at the age of 21 - my wife to have use of said negro slave called Peter until Francis is 21. Should Francis not have heirs the said negro slave Peter to be divided between my two (the next word is really not readable but I think it is sisters) Ruth Barrington and Lydia Linfield. To my son Francis one negro woman called Jude - wife to have use of negro Jude until Francis is 21. Should he die without heirs, wife to have 1/3 of her increase. The remainder of her increase to be divided among my wife Elizabeth, Susannah Hill, Ruth Barrington and Lydia Linfield Wife Elizabeth to enjoy my plantation and to give my son Francis schools from the age of 14 to 21 To beloved wife and trusted friend Benjamin Williams to be executors. Bequeath to son - those items listed at first spice and mortor etc To my cousin John Windham one bay mare running in Broad Creek Wood and cows running at the plantation of W Becton (?) John signed the will - no mark Wit Scarborough Tankard (?), Edward (?) Williams, jurat, Ed. Pearce St Will was taken to Court in July 1766 and recorded in Sept of 1766
