Will of James Reed located in North Carolina Archives in Raleigh 
CR 028.801  - Original Will

In the Name of God Amen I James REED of Craven county and State of North
Carolina beang in and of perfeck sence and Sound memory do make this my Last
Will and Testament in maner and form following that is to say first my will is
that all my Just debts be paid and discharged and my body to be deasently
bruied at the disency of my Executor here after named.

First I give and Bequeave unto my Loving daughter Sarah HOLES one Shilling
Starling Being in full with She has allredy receaved.

Second I Lend to my Loving wife Cortney REED All my estate to rais by children
on whild the youngest comes of age then to be Sole for money and the money to
be equely divided between my four Children James John Abner and Faney REED
further I do Nominate and apoint Absalom TAYLER my hole ArrusAc (?) and
executor to this my last will and testament revoking and dismissing all other
wills before by me made and no other but this to be my last will and testament
Witness wher of I have set my hand and afix my Seal this the twelth day of
feber won thousand Seven hundre and eighty two.

[Personal Note:  After James Reed died, Courtney married John Reives and had 
several children by him.  (See Will on John Reives) Between 1793-1800, 
Courtney Reives and her children moved to Putnam/Hancock County, Georgia and 
later to Pike Co. Al.  On August 1, 1999, William Flake Joiner of Troy, Al 
contacted me regarding information on Cortney/Courtney Reeves.  One researcher 
in AL had looked for 30 years for the parents of the Reeves children.  The 
REEVES descendants have identified about 5,000 descendants and their spouses 
and children.  Through the efforts of Nancy Reeves of Raleigh NC, she was able 
to collect data in Ga and NC proving the connection between the Reed and 
Reeves Families.  A book was published in late 2001 on "The River Reeves"  A
