Being of sound mind and in my perfect senses but of feeble health, and knowing that by the course of nature, I cannot survive a great while longer, I Asa Taylor, of the County of Craven and State of North Carolina, do make this my last will and testament viz Imprimis I give and bequeath my soul to God who gave it and my body to a decent Christian burial. Item To my son JAMES R. TAYLOR I give and bequeath a certain tract of land containing (by the deed) sixty six acres more or less, Known by the name of the "Hampton Land" being deeded to me by Hampton WILLIAMS in the presence of Israel HOWARD and Stephen F. Hardison, the third of May 1838, And further I give and bequeath to my said son Jas. R. TAYLOR a certain portion of the tract of land whereon I reside known by the name of "Wolf Tract" or "Wolf Land" deeded to me by Henerietta SMITH embracing fifty acres, more or less bounded as follows, viz: beginning in Elijah HARDISON's line at a point the nearest to the first hollow bridge below Wood road crossing the New Bern and Beaufort road thence down that branch to where it forks thence directly across the big island to Brices Creek, then down the creek to the Hampton line then along the Hampton line to Elijah Harrdison's line thence along Elijah Hardisons line to the beginning - viz the point in Elijah Hardison's line the nearest to the first hollow bridge crossing the New Bern and Beaufort road below Woods road as has here before been mentioned. This portion of the Wolf land as bounded above, adjoins the Hampton land which has hereinfore been named. Item. To my son BENJAMIN R TAYLOR I give a and bequeath the balance of a certain tract of land containing by the deed one hundred and fifty acres more or less of which I have just willed to his brother Jas R. Taylor and known by the name of the Wolf Land or Wolf Tract being deeded to me by Henrietta Smith in the presence of Joseph Pittman, February 4, 1833. N.B, I possess about two hundred acres of land and I wish it to be divided as nearly equal as practicable between my two sons Jas. R. Taylor and Benj. R. Taylor it lies in two tract. I have a deed for each one contains 66 acres that is called the Hampton land and I give it to Jas. R. Taylor and as much of the Wolf tract as will make his portion about equal to the balance which I give to Brnjamin R. Taylor, The remainder of the Wolf land after deducting about fifty acres for Jas. R. Taylor as contained within the boundaries hereinbefore mentioned I give to Benjamin R. Taylor. Item I give and bequeathe to my son Benjamin R. Taylor my ox cart, one yoke of oxen - one is named Buck, the other Dart. N. B. It is my will that whenever my son James R. Taylor may wish to use the above yoke of oxen that my son Benjamin may let him have the use these. Further I give and bequeath to my son Benjamin R. Taylor, five head of cattle viz: one cow named Tempe with her calf or yearling, one named Cass (the offspring of Temp) and her yearling, and a heifer - these embrace Temp and her present offspring. Item. To my Son Jas. R. Taylor I give and bequeath the residue of my cattle that are in my mark - not hereinbefore disposed of. Item. I give and bequeath to my Son Jas. R. Taylor one bed, bedstead and bed furniture. Item. To my Son Jas. R. Taylor I give and bequeath one set of cooper's tools. Item. To my son Benjamin R. Taylor I give and bequeath my Joiner's Tools and one wrought iron plow. Item to my son Benjamin R. Tayler I give and bequeath one bed and furniture there is no stead belonging to it. Item. To my beloved wife Gatsy, I give and bequeath one bed, bedstead and bed furniture, and one mirror or lookingglass. Item. To my son James R. Tayler I give and bequeath one large folding leaf mahogany dining table. Item. To my son Benjamin r. Tayler I give and bequeath one joining maare named Eliza - or Lizer. Item. All my property every article of it, not herinbefore disposed of, I wish to be equally divided between my two sons Benjamin R. Jas. R. Taylor, and my beloved wife Gatsy Tayler. Item. To Stephen F. Hardison I give and bequeath nothing now - having already given him a bed, bedstead, and furniture, and one round tea table. Item. To Alexander Benjamin Hardison, son of Stephen F. Hardison and his wife (my daughter) Mary Ann, should he live to become twenty-one years old - and not otherwise, I give and bequeath either ten dollars in money or a cow and calf, whichever the rest of my heirs may see proper to do and I make this bequest notwithstanding that I have already herein before disposed of all my property to my tow Sons Jas. R. Taylor, Benjamin R. Taylor and Gatsy Taylor my beloved wife and it is my will that this my last Will and Testament be so interpreted as to secure the aforesaid bequest of ten dollars or a cow and calf to the aforesaid, Alexander Benjamin Hardison, upon the afore mentioned condition. The foregoing last Will of Asa Taylor deceased was proved in open court and in due form of law by the oath of John P.
