North Carolina, Craven County. I, John Veale, being weak but of sound and perfect memory, committing my soul in the care of Almighty God, do make and appoint this my last will and testament in manner and form following, vis: First of all my just debts to be paid and then I lend my loving wife Elizabeth Veale all my lands and all my other properties and debts due me in this County not to be interrupted of any of them during her life or second marriage but at her death or second marriage then to give as followest amongst my children. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my oldest son Elijah Veale all my lands in Virginia in Prince William and Fairfax Counties, also I give him my land in Greens Creek provided he does not interrupt David Brothers in a piece of land I sold him, one hundred acres on Bear River and if he does for the same hammock of land to be delivered up to the said David Brothers and his heirs forever, also I give to my son Elijah Veale four acres of land I bought of Nicholas Cary all these said lands I give him and his heirs forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my youngest son Bond Veale the piece of land I now live on as also my boat and gun, to him and his heirs forever, but if he should die without heir I desire for the whole to be sold and the money equally divided among my then youngest daughters, Mary Veale, Nancy Veale, Betsy Veale, to them and their heirs forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Veale one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Nancy Veale feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Betsy one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever, and all the rest of my estate, I leave to be sold to the highest bidder and the money equally divided between all my children, viz: Elijah Veale, Bond Veale, Eleanor Pitman, Susannah Hammon (?), Jemima Brothers, Mary Veal, Nancy Veale, and Betsy Veale, my whole and sole executors, avoiding all other wills, as witness my hand and seal, October the 2, 1786. March Craven County Court, 1787, Then was the within last will and testament of John Veale produced in open Court and proved in open Court by the oath of Bond Veale, one of the subscribing witnesses thereto, and at the same time, Elizabeth Veale and Bond Veale the executors therein named qualified as such agreeable to law.
