I William Wickliffe of the County of Craven in the province of No. Carolina being of a Sound and perfect Memory thanks be to God. I make and Ordain this to be my Last will and testaments in Manner and form following that is to say first I Give my to God who gave it & my Body to the Earth from whence it came to decently Buried at Descresion of my Exeecutors after named and as following what Wordly Estate of his Money hath Been Bestowed upon me and I give and Gequeath in Mannor and form following- Important I Give and bequeath unto my Loving son William Wickliffe and his heirs One Negro fellow named Poter and one whench named Jony with her increase. Likewise I give unto my son William all my Wearing apparoll both Wooling and Lining and what Silver & List & Wearing Apparell all my books, Riding horses, --- to .. my above said son William the one fourth part of all my Cattle and in Honor Mare and Colts . The One fourth part of all Money household Goods, Merchant Goods and Wares I have both home and abroad after my Just Debts and Legacies paid. Exclusive of a Bond indorsed over of Jo.Butt? Bull???? Item- I Give and Bequeath unto my Loving Daughter Elizabeth Wickliffe, Now Elizabeth Franks to her and her heirs one Negro fellow ___ one bed bolster and Beding , her Mother’s ---Likewise I give unto my aforesaid daughter Elizabeth the One fourth part of all my Cattle and in horses, Mares and Colts and One fourth part of all of Moneys household Goods and Merchant Goods and Wares I have both at home and abroad after my Just Debts and Legacies paid. Item- I Give and Bequeath unto my Loving Daughter Alice Wickliffe and to her heirs Three Negroes, one Negro Pollais, -----------. I give unto my Above sd. Daughter one Desk with four draws. One feather bed , beding and bolster, one Chinse Gown and a Blue Mantle which was her Monthers.One Lining (Linen) Wheel, the One fourth part of all my Cattle and in horses, Mares, colts, the one fourth part of all of Moneys household goods, Merchant goods, ... Exclusive of a Bond of Mr. Jno. Rice for one hundred and forty pounds sterling and another of Doctor Bryan for two hundred and twenty pounds Sterling between Alice and Katherine. Item I Give and Bequeath unto my Grandsons which is Sons to my son William Wickliff which is Duly Begotten after Mariage equaly to be divided amongst them all my Lotts Lands and houses and Tenament that is in the Province of North Carolina or in any other of his Majesties Dominions to them and their heirs for Ever. But in Case my above son William should Die without Issue as said. Then I give and Bequeath unto my Grandchild or on whole is Children to my children Elizabeth, Alice, Catherine Wickliffe which is Duly Begotten after Marriage all my Lotts, Lands , Houses and Tenaments as above Mentioned Equally to be devided and M---them and their heirs forever. Item The remaining part of my Estate not before Given of what Kind and Nature ever I Give and Bequeath unto my Son William Wickliff and My Daughters Alice and Katherine Wickliffe equally to be divided and .. them their heirs and assigns for Ever. But in Case Any of My Children should die in their Minority that then their part of my Estate Divided to them shall equally be Divided amongst the Survivors of my above mentioned children William, Alice, and Katherine Wickliffe. Item I constitue Ordain and Appoint my well beloved friend(Crossed out name) and My Loving son William Wickliffe and Son in Law John Franks and also my loving friend John Starkey (Markey?) all in Craven County and Province of No. Carolina to be my Executors to this my Last Will and Testament Revoking all other wills by me before made ratifying and confirming this & no other to be my Last Will and Testament and in Testimony whereof I have here enter sett my hand and fixed my seal this 30 day of Sept. in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred fifty Three. William Wickliffe. ------------------ Will of William Wickliffe 1775 Craven Co. N.C. Proved December Court 1775. In the Name of God Amen. I William Wickliffe being of sound mind and memory do make and appoint this my last will and Testament in manner following. viz: I give my soul unto almighty God and my Body to be Decently buried at the Discretion of my Executors herin after mentioned. And to my worldly substance that it has pleased God to Bless me with I Dispose of the same in manner following that is to say I Desire that all my Just Debts of what kind soever be first paid. First I give and Bequeath unto my Loving wife Margaret Wickliffe the Negroes hereafter named viz. Peter, Jack, Doll, Dido, and all my stock of Hoggs, Horses, Mares, and horned cattle that I am possessed of also the one Half of all my movable or personal estate to her and her heirs and assignees for ever, I also lend unto my said Wife the Plantation I now live on during her natural life. Secondly I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Wickliffe the one half of the rest of my Negroes not already bequeathed to be Equally divided with their increase between her and her brother when she arrives at the age of Twenty one years or her intermarriage whichever shall first happen to her and her heirs and assines forever. Thirdly, I Give and Bequeath unto my son William Wickliffe the Plantation I live on after the Decease of his mother. Also my Plantation on Mill Creek and the one half of my negroes not bequeathed to my wife to be Equally divided between him and my daughter with their increase to him his heirs and assignes for Ever. Fourthly my Will and Desire is that the one half of my movable estate not before bequeathed, also all my Lots and Houses which I own in New Bern be sold to pay my Debts and other necessary Expences and if any residue is left I herein bequeath the sixth part of the same unto my wife and the remr. to be equally divided between my Two children Elizabeth and William to them their Heirs and assignes forever And further my Will and Desire is that the Lotts in New Bern and the Land up Trent that Daniel SIMMONS sold being formerly the property of my ssister Ealse (Alice) also another piece of Land on the Vine Swamp which said Simmons sold being also the Property of my Said Sister be sued for as part of my Estate and the same when recovered by and remain for ... William his heirs and assignes for Ever. And Lastly I hereby Nominate, constitute my .... Robert Ormelsy, Christopher Neal and Loving wife to be the executors and Executrix of this my last will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all former Wills or Settlements by me made and confirming this only to be my last Will and Testament. In Wittness whereof I hereunto sett my Hand and Seal this 30th Day of September One Thousand Seven Hundred and seventy five. Be it remembered before the signing sealing and Publishing these presents that my will and Desire is that in case my son and Daughter should Both Die without leaving any issue lawfully begotten of their Bodies Severally that then and in such case I leave the Plantation whereon I now live unto my Loving Wife her heirs and assignes forever and my Plantation on Mill Creek I leave and give unto my Sister Elizabeth Franck’s three Children by John Francks or such of them as may be living at such time of the death of my Children without Lawful Issue as aforesaid to be Equally divided between them. The aforegoing last will and Testament of William Wickliffe was exhibitied into Court and duly proved by the Oath of Thomas Collier - one of the subscribing witnesses thereto who swore that he saw the Testator sign seal Publish and declare the same to be and confirm his last Will and Testament that at the time thereof he was of sound disposing mind and Memory, at the same time Robert Orme Esquire one of the Executors therein named took the Oath of an Executor agreeable to Law, Ordered that Mr. Secretary have notice threof that letters Testamentory .. therin accordingly.Christopher Neal, Clk.
