Cumberland County, NC - Hon. Duncan Mac Farland, 1805 Raleigh, NC We learn that at the last term of Fayetteville Superior Court, the Grand Jury found two Bills of Indictment against the Hon. Duncan Mac Farland, Esq., the representative in Congress for that district: one for forgery, and the other for perjury, and that he is now in the prison of Fayetteville. Mr. Mac Farland sent a memorial on Thursday to the Governor praying a called court of Oyer and Terminer to try him - for the purpose, we presume, of enabling him to go on in time to take his seat in Congress, which meets the first Monday in next month. Governor Turner refused to grant his request alledging that before he could have the advice of his counsel, the Legislature would meet, who could, if applied to, interfere. It would appear that Mr. Mac Farland was very much persecuted - first pelted with rotten eggs in the streets of Fayetteville on the day of election, by some saucy boys, and now deprived of his liberty for the trifling accusations of forgery and perjury.
