Jacob Matthews to his eight children

To all to whom theses presents shall come Greeting, Know ye that I Jacob 
Matthews, Sr. of the County of Cumberland and State of North Carolina (Planter) 
have for the love, good will, and affection, for the many good services done me 
by my Children, and for other Considerations herein not Mentioned have given and 
granted and by these Presents do freely give and grant to my said Children the 
following Property (To Wit) Viz. First to my Young daughter Lydda Matthews one 
Feather Bed and Furniture [and] Two Hundred Dollars in Cash, also to my daughter 
Elizabeth Stuart Fifty Dollars, also to my daughter Patience Johnston Fifty 
Dollars, and the residue and Remainder of my estate consisting of one Negro 
Fellow Surry, a Stock of Cattle, Horses, and Hogs, all my House hold and Kitchen 
Furniture (My Plantation and Working Tools is Excepted which has already Been 
given to my son Amos Matthews) I give to my Five Sons David, Jacob, Lazarous, 
Amos, and Simon Matthews by them and their Heirs Fully to be possed and Enjoyed 
forever hereafter (reserving only to myself and Wife the benefit and use of the 
things given to my Five Sons enduring Our Natural lifetimes and no longer).  In 
testimony whereof I the said Jacob Matthews Senr. have herewith set my hands and 
Seal this 13th Day of February 1810.
