Cumberland County, NC - Revolutionary War Pension of William Fields ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HeritageQuest Online William Fields, Pension # S.25088 Series: M805, Roll: 319, Image: 541, File: S25088 January 31, 1931 Mrs. Charles F. Wayland Knoxville, Tennessee Dear Madam: You are advised that it appears from the Revoluntionary War records of this bureau that William Fields served five or six months as a private in Captain Knox's company, Colonel Moore's North Carolina regiment and was in the battle of Stone where he received a gunshot wound of the right arm just below the elbow, the bone being broken. This wound rendered him unfit for military service. On account of disability resulting from said wound, he was pensioned by the United States from March 4, 1809. It is stated that he was previously pensioned by the State of North Carolina. In 1832 he was living in Scott County, Virginia, having moved from North Carolina, possibly Cumberland County. He died February 8, 1854 in Scott County, Virginia. His age is not given. Soldier married in August, 1808 (marriage bond dated August 8, 1808) in Russell County, Virginia, Miss Elizabeth (or Betsey) Elliott. One Michael Elliott signed the marriage bond (by mark), but no relationship is stated. Said Elizabeth Fields was living in Scott County, Virginia in 1855, aged eighty-four years.
