Norris Raleigh, North Carolina Dear Madam: Reference is made to your request for the record of Alexander Johnson, a soldier of the Revolution. The data furhished herein were obtained from papers on file in the pension claim, W. 5034, based upon the military services of Alexander Johnson. He was born in June 1760, in Johnston County, North Carlina. The name of his parents were not given. While a resident of Cumberland County, North Carolina, he enlisted and served as private with the North Carolina troops as follows: in 1780, four months in Captain Gilmore's company in Colonel Caswell's regiment; again in 1780, three months in Captain James Love's company in Colonel Dickson's regiment and was in the battle of Camden; then enlisted, year not given, and served three months in Captain Hadly's and McKethan's companies. He was allowed pension on his application executed September 3, 1832, at which time he was living in Cumberland County, North Carolina. Alexander Johnson died March 28, 1841 in Cumberland County, North Carolina. He married August 10, 1783, Esther or Easter, her maiden name not given. She was allowed pension on her application executed August 6, 1844, at which time she was living in Cumberland County, North Carolina, and stated that she was "aged ninety years or upwards." Children of Alexander and Esther or Easter Johnson: J--- (illegible) a daughter born October 7, 1785 Alexander born February 26, 1789 Patsey born February 14, 1791 John born April 3, 1793 Amos born April 23, 1795 In 1845, one Jacob Matthews, aged seventy-seven years, stated that the widow, Esther or Easter, was his aunt. In 1844, one Duncan McLean, aged thirty-six years, stated that he married the granddaughter of the widow but did not give her name. There are no further data relative to the soldier's family.
