Sept. 13, 1826  North Carolina Journal September 13, 1826
   DARING ROBBERY -- On Friday last, as CAPT. JAMES TOWNES, merchant of 
Cheraw, and lately of Fayetteville, was traveling toward Raleigh,m his trucnk 
cut loose from his gig, about six miles from Fayetteville, at mid-day, and has 
not been heard of. -- Travellers would do well to be upon their guard as some 
lurking villians are suspected of investing the neighborhood. 
   -- Since the above was in type, we have been informed that the trunk, 
broken open, but containing the wearing apparel and papers of CAPT. TOWNES, 
was found within a mile of this place. The robber was disappointed in finding 
any money, had abandoned his prize.
