Aug. 9, 1826  North Carolina Journal August 9, 1826
   ATTEMPT TO MURDER -- JOSHUA EDWARDS of Cumberland County, was shot in his 
own yard on Thursday night last, by some assassin, and though severely 
wounded, is alive. MR. EDWARDS was preparing to go to bed and stepping out of 
his door was shot at; he was wounded in the head, breast, and arm. We have not 
heard who is suspected of doing the act.
