Court &c. by which the morals and honesty of him, viz, Matthews, were rendered very susceptible; as he stood thereby charged with having stole or been accessory to stealing a horse belonging to Mr Moore, you will, I doubt not, think, that humanity, and the love of innocence as cogently urge, to bring to light the truth, to protect innocence, as to correct vice - pursuant to which I hope you will signify to the public, that W Cook, did, on the morning before he was executed, declare solemnly, that, he himself stole the horse above described, the theft of which he had formerly charged against Mr Matthews. After having declared Mr Matthews innocent of the fact, he made some other confessions of facts directly against himself - which, however, little concerned the public, being made to, and lodged with, the individuals specially interested. All which seemed, indeed, intitled to a considerable degree of credit, being deeply characterized, so far as men can judge, with sincerity and penitence of mind.
