DIED, on the 1st inst., in the vicinity of Fayetteville, MR. GEORGE ELLIOT. In 
the death of this worthy man society has lost a valuable member, the poor, a 
friend and benefactor, his family, a fond husband and affectionate father. No 
man could have performed the journey of life with more credit to himself, or 
benefit to the community. No man could have left the stage of action whose 
death would be more regretted. Throughout an active and industrious life, he 
supported a character of which any man might be proud; a character which envy 
could not blast, nor calumny degrade.
