London trishahen@earthlink.net ==================================================================== August 1, 1930 Former Fayeteville Man Loses Life Near St. Paul's Thomas Cameron Faucette, formerly of Fayetteville, but more recently laboratory technician at the Thompson Memorial hospital in Lumberton, was injured fatally last night in an automobile collision near St. Pauls on the Lumberton-St. Pauls highway. His car crashed into an automobile driven by Rev William E. Hairston, a negro, of Lumberton. Both cars overturned and Mr. Faucette was pinned beneath the wreckage. He was injured about the head and his chest was crushed. He died shortly after having been carried to the Baker Sanitorium at Lumberton. Hairston and his wife were uninjured. Coroner D.W. Biggs began an inquest last night but continued it until today. Mr. Faucette was 34 years old and was born in Lillington. During the wars he was a member of Company M 119th Infantry of the 30th division and served 21 months in France. He was a member of the American Legion. After the war he moved to Fayetteville and was a laboratory technician at Highsmith hospital for a number of years. He married Miss Elzeta Hammond, of Fayetteville, who survives him with one son, T. C. Cameron, Jr. aged 2 1/2 years. He is also survived by his father, William Henry Faucette, of Lillington, and by three brothers and one sister. His sister Miss Jimmie Faucette of the Carolina Telephone and Telegraph company of this city. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the residence of Mr. Faucette's father in law, F.B. Hammond. The American Legion will be in charge of the burial. Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. C. S. Matthews, Presbyterian Minister of Lumberton and Dr. J.S.Snyder. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dr. T.C. Johnson, Dr.R.S.Beam, Dr.S.McIntyre, Dr.James McLeod, Dr.John McMilllian, Sheriff B.F.McMillan and Capt. Eli Wishart all of Lumberton; Capt. W.D. Holland of Dunn , Mr. Faucette's wartime commander; and Dr.J. F. Highsmith, Dr. J.D. Highsmith , Dr. Seavy Highsmith and Dr. W. T. Rainey, all of Fayetteville.
