Nov. 1, 1826 North Carolina Journal DIED, in Fayetteville, on Saturday morning last, in the 62nd year of his age, JOHN HOGG, ESQ. He had been long laboring under a severe and distressing affliction of the Asthma, which he bore with becoming fortitude, and when death made its approaches he met them cheerfully and without dismay. MR. HOGG was born in the City of London, and was educated in Scotland, and emigrated to this country in the year 1784. As a merchant and a Magistrate he was advantageously known at Hillsboro, Raleigh, Wilmington and Fayetteville; as a man of strong discriminating mind stored with a variety of knowledge, he was respected by all his acquaintances. He was the first Cashier at the Bank of Cape Fear, and to his financial talents and prudent management, that institution is indebted for much of its prosperity. For some years before his death, MR. HOGG was Clerk and Master in Equity for Cumberland County and one of its most useful, active and efficient Magistrates. To him, especially, are the people of Cumberland indebted for having brought the financial concerns of their county from a state of disorder and chaos and restoring them to system. To the design of placing the finance of the county upon a solid basis, MR. HOGG lent much of the application of his vigorous mind, and we cheerfully bear testimony to the honesty, the zeal, and the intelligence which marked and distinguished his efforts.
