         DEATH OF JUDGE POTTER
   The HON. HENRY POTTER, Judge of the U. S. District Court for North Carolina 
breathed his last at 3 o'clock on Sunday last.
  Full of years and full of honors, his end was peace. This community has 
never known a better citizen. Appointed in 1801 to the office which he held 
unto his death, he convinced all who witnessed his administration of public 
justice, that when the judicial ermine fell upon his shoulders, it touched 
nothing less pure and spotless than itself. His funeral took place at the 
Presbyterian Church of Fayettevile -- of which he had long been a Ruling 
Elder -- at 11 o'clock on Tuesday last. JUDGE POTTER was in the 93rd year of 
his age when he died.
