POTTS: D. In Gadsen Co., Fla., on the 23d ult., Capt. Jesse Ptts, formerly of 
Fayetteville, NC, in the 83d year of his age ... born in Prince George County, 
(Va), on the 4th Oct 1754. At the age of 21, he volunteered ... appointed 
Deputy Quarter Master General, in which capacity he continued till the close 
of the war. While defending the Public Stores at Halifax, NC, he was cut down 
by one of Tarleton's dragoons ... received a full load of British powder in 
his face, which he has taken with him to the grave. RaSTDw Wed 21 Jun 1837.
