MAGGIE ALLEN EDWARDS SMITH

   Mrs. Maggie Edwards Smith, 88, of Fayetteville, N.C., a native of Southampton 
County, died Tuesday night, April 30, at the home of her son, M.M. Smith, in 
Fayetteville.

   She was the widow of John M. Smith and was a member of Sycamore Baptist 
Church near Franklin.

   Survivors in addition to her son, include a daughter, Mrs. Joseph F. Gulick 
of Chevy Chase, Md. ; a brother, L.M. Edwards of Franklin; a sister, Mrs. G.C. 
Brothers of Whaleyville; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and a 
number of nieces and nephews.

   Funeral services were conducted today (Thursday) from the chapel of the 
Highland Presbyterian Chapel by Rev. Tal Haines. Burial was in Cross Creek 
Cemetery.
