C. "Argus" Feb. 8, 1854 OBITUARY We have rarely witnessed a larger or more solemn funeral procession than that which followed the mortal remains of JOHN W. WRIGHT ESQ. to their final resting place on Sunday afternoon. We copy from "The Observer" (one of whose editors has lived in daily intercourse with MR. WRIGHT for many years) the following just tribute to his memory: "Our Community has lost one of its best citizen. JOHN W. WRIGHT ESQ. departed this life on Saturday morning last in the 63rd year of his age. He had long been in feeble health, yet his death seems sudden -- sudden to all but himself -- for he performed all his accustomed duties as Cashier of the Branch Bank of Cape Fear during Monday last. On that evening whilst in cheerful conversation with his family, a fit of coughing produced hemorrhage, which so weakened him that he could not leave his room. On Saturday morning another such attack caused his death in a moment apparently without pain -- the quiet going out of the candle which had long been flickering in the socket. In the Church, of which he was so devoted a member and officer, in the Bank which he has served with signal ability and integrity upwards of 30 years, and in the Community, which has freqently honored him with its posts of trust and power, his place cannot be filed. He was widely known and universally respected.
