Armstrong's N.C. Regt. Rev. War December 31, 1833 Nathan King headstone is a Revolutionary War marker. He once lived nearby to this cemetery and at one time owned over 4,000 acres of land in Cumberland County. He was born in 1750 probably in what was then Duplin County. Actually, he could have been born somewhere between Bertie County and Duplin County. He was the youngest son of Michael and Mary (Snell) King. When his father left Duplin County about 1770 and moved to Cumberland County, Nathan moved with him along with a sister named Keziah. During the RW Nathan served as a Captain in Armstrong's North Carolina Regiment and was involved in much action in the vicinity of Charleston, South Carolina. He applied for a pension from the US Government for his service during the RW in 1832 and it was approved. He died in Cumberland County on December 31, 1833. I found out about this cemetery by reading a book written by one of his descendants, Oscar Benjamin King. The book is entitled "Our King Family - Their Ancestors, In-Laws And Descendants" (1970) and this can be found in many genealogical libraries.
