Cumberland Co., NC, Will of Richard Atkins, dated 24 Oct 1814; Proved Dec 1814
Transcribed from copy received from the NC State Archives

In the Name of God Amen,  I Richard Atkins, Planter of the County of 
Cumberland & State of North Carolina being sick & weak in Body, but of perfect 
Mind & Memory - do give demise & dispose of the remainder & residu of my 
worldly Estate as folows (the rest being already disposed of) to wit - I give 
& bequeath to my loving Wife Anne Atkins three Negroes Mountain Budget & Bet & 
all my parishable property of every description to be for ever at her own 
disposal after paying all my Just Debts - Also the use & profits of all my 
lands enduring her Natural lifetime or until my Son Ica comes of lawful age & 
then it is my Will and desire for the lands to be divided into to [two] equal 
parts by three good Men chosen for that purpose & for she my loving Wife to 
Take her choice of the two pieces after the division takes place & for her to 
live on it enduring her natural life or as she pleases and after her 
relinquishing the same for her part to belong to my young Son Richard Pinkney 
Atkins - and the other half of my lands as stated above to my Son Ica & is to 
take possession of when he arrives at lawful age - given under my hand & seal 
in the presence of these witnesses this 24th of October 1814 -
