This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Melanie Atkins melanieatkins@chartertn.net ==================================================================== Cumberland Co., NC, Ica Atkins Will of 1796 NC (No Probate Info Given) Transcribed from copy received from NC State Archives In the name of God Amen, I, Ica Atkins senr [Sr.], Planter, being very sick and weak in Body but of perfect mind & memory, thanks be given unto God calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and testament: that is to say, principally and first of all, I give & recommend my Soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in decent Christian Burial at the discretion of my Executors, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again, by the mighty power of God, and as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, demise and dispose of in the same in the following manner & form First, I give and bequeath to Anne Atkins my dearly beloved Wife enduring her natural lifetime four Negroes To Wit, one fellow Peter one Wench Bet one d.o [daughter of?] Dorcass & one girl Chloe & one half of my stock of Hogs and Cattle together with one half of all my Houshold furniture & two head of Horses to have & to hold enduring her said natural lifetime - Also I give to my Daughter Sarah Robinson twenty Shillings together with all that she has ever had from me Also, I give unto William Rand formerly a husband of my Daughter Elizabeth dec'd five Shillings and I give to my Grandson Abraham Rand son of my Daughter Elizabeth dec'd fifteen Shillings Also, I give unto the Heirs of my Daughter Nancy Parker deceased twenty shillings, together with all that she ever had from me in her lifetime Also, I give unto my grand Son Ica Parker son of my Daughter Nancy Parker dec'd Two Hundred Acres of Land called the Murdocks Creek Land. Also, I give unto my Son Lewis Atkins One Hundred pound to be paid him within four years by my Executor, Together with what he hath already had from me. Also, I give unto my grand Son Ica Atkins son of Lewis Atkins, Three Hundred & Ninety Acres of land on the waters of Hecters Creek called the Mill Stone land. Also; I give unto my Son Ica Atkins Junior fifty pounds to be paid to him within two years by my Executor, Together with one Negro Boy Lightfoot and what other articles he hath already had from me which said boy he has now in possession. Also, I give unto my son John Atkins three Negroes to wit, one boy Charles one girl Chloe which he is to have after his Mothers decease & one girl named Little Cate and one small Island on the South west side of Cape Fear River just above my ferry containing about twelve acres. Together with what he hath already had from me Also, I give unto my son Richard Atkins one Cow and calf & one feather Bed Also, I give unto my Daughter Gracy Stevens & her Heirs lawfully Begotten of her Body four Negroes, to wit, One Wench Bet one Boy Skipper one girl Tidy & one girl Dinah together with what other things she hath already had from me Also, I give unto my well Beloved son James Atkins whom I likewise constitute, make & ordain the sole Executor of this my last will & testament, all my outstanding Debts and the other half of all my Stocks of Cattle Hogs & Horses & Houshold furniture & every other thing I now possess Together with one Negro Wench Dorcass & the other part of the Stock after the decease of Anne Atkins my wife, by him freely to be possest & enjoyed, And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke, and disannul all and every other former Testaments, Wills, Legacies, bequests & Executors, by me in any wise before named, Willed, and bequeathed: ratifying and confirming this, and no other, to be my last Will & testament, In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 23rd day of November A.D.
