Peacock Oct 17, 1870-Sept. 28,1953 --------------------- Above information is from a hand typed manuscript that I bought from Mr. Henry Reeves in the 1970's. Since that time Henry Reeves has died. CEMETERY INSCRIPTIONS from DAVIDSON COUNTY, NC Preface: The inscriptions in this compilation include those from some of the oldest cemeteries in Davidson County, NC which county was formed from old Rowan in 1822. Most of the old German inscriptions have ben set down verbatim and a translation given only when the need for one appears necessary to Mr. Henry Reeves of Lexington NC, a student of Davidson Co history and genealogy is due the credit for the tremendous amount of work put into gathering these cemetery inscriptions. In 1960 Mr. George Livengood of Seattle, Washington compiled Mr. Reeves records as gathered to that date. This 1970 compilation includes those records. Every effort has been made to record these inscriptions accurately and any errors found are due either to the conditions of the old stones or to human failure of this compiler of Mr. Reeves data. Many of the old cemeteries have been records in full and others have partial listings with emphasis in recording the oldest stones. If a partial listing is made it is so indicated. A few cemeteries listed in the 1960 Livengood compilation are omitted from this one because they are in Forsyth and Randolph counties. Unrecorded cemeteries in Davidson County alone should provide more than enough material for a second volume of inscriptions. Mr. Reeves original records included many genealogical notes and your compiler has included many of them since this record is primarily one for genealogical use. One must remain aware that a great many of the oldest stones are missing or illegible and that there are also a great many field stones with no inscriptions at all. Your compiler has indicated these stones although their located presence in a known family burial area may be of vague and questionable genealogical value. 1970 Henry Reeves, Mrs. G.
