North Carolina Court of Pleas and Quarter Davie County Sessions August term 1849 The petition of Lydia Hendricks and Tennison Cheshire, respectfully petitioning shew unto your worships your petrs. that David W. Hendricks hath lately departed this life intestate - that he owned at the time of his death 3 negro slaves to wit, George, Bill and Cindy - that your petr. Lydia and her children Catharine, Lydia, Francis Munroe and Henry Harrison, who are the wards of yr. petr. Tennison are his next of kin and that at the present term of this court Yr. Petr. Tennison was appointed admn. of the said intestate David. They therefore pray your worships, that inasmuch as said slaves cannot be divided, that the admrs. be authorized and directed to expose the said slaves at public sale after 20 days notice, to the highest bidder on a credit of six months, with int. from date, at the late residence of the deceased & that he make report to the next term of this court. She had five children, as follows: David W. Hendricks 1826-1849 Catherine Camilla Hendricks 1829-1856, m. Caleb Bohannon in 1851 Lydia Louisa Hendricks 1832-1864 m. Gideon Howell in 1851 Francis Monroe Hendricks 1838-1920 m. Martha Redman in 1858 Henry Harrison Hendricks 1841-1856 At the time of the petition transcribed above, Francis and Henry were still under age, and Tennison Cheshire had been named as their guardian.]
