Coley, who learned art "mysterious," the printing trade in the old Western Sentinel office, was one of the attendants upon the annual reunion of the Sheek family, of which he is a member. "The wines were made from the grapes grown in the large vineyard, while the peach and apple brandies were manufactured from fruit gathered from the plantation's splendid orchard. Mr. Coley, who for several years has been manager of the circulation department of the Raleigh News and Observer, continued his story that during his boyhood days he and another urchin of like size and age, learned to get into that celler and "sample" some of the good wines stored therein. "Grandfather kept the basement door locked, but myself and the other lad discovered that two of the porch floor planks were losed (sic) and after the old gentleman had retired for the night we removed the floor plank, crawled through the opening and thence through the opening and thence through the celler window. We were then in position to acquire all of the tempting wines we desired," declared one of the descendants of the one of Davie county's ancient families - Winston Salem Sentinel Additional Comments: Will Xenophon Coley was born May 7, 1868 in the Sheek House on the Yadkin River to James Henry Coley and Mary Margaret Mock Coley (daughter of Henry Mock and Susanna Sheek Mock).
