A native of Clinton, N.C., he had been a Hampton resident since 1951. A 33rd Degree Mason, he was a Past Master of both St. Tammany Lodge #5 and Army and Navy Lodge #306, AF & AM as well as a member of the Scottish Rite Temple and the Odd Fellows. He was also a longtime member of the Original Club. Survivors include his wife, Alice M. Bass; his son, R. Todd Bass and his wife, Carol, of Mathews; his daughter, Samantha A. Bass of Hampton; three grandchildren, Tina, Michael and Sarah Bass; and two brothers, Henry Bass of Gloucester and Marion Bass of Clinton, N.C. A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at St. Tammany Lodge #5, 1456 W. Queen St., Hampton. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd., Suite 102A, Newport News, VA 23606, or the Masonic Widows' Fund, 213 Beechmont Drive, Newport News, VA 23608.
