Cook, 86, of Hampton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday,May 21, 2007. Mr. Cook retired from NASA in 1980. He was a native of Cooleemee, NC, and was a Hampton resident since 1951. John was a member of Grace Baptist Chapel, where he held several positions in the church including Deacon. He served his country in Cmpany "D", 508th Parachute Infantry, U.S. Army during World War II. He is servived by his loving wife, Marie B. Cook; a daughter, Bonnie Harris of Hampton; a son, John R. Cook, Jr., and his wife, Linda,of Poolesville, MD; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, with the Pastors Charles Taylor and Jack Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Baptist Chapel, 805 Todds Lane, Hampton 23666.
