Gibbs Hanes Davie Times, 5 May 1881 Died, In Fulton, Davie County, April 28th 1881, Mrs. Sallie E. Hanes, wife of W.P. Hanes Esqr. and daughter of the late Elisha Gibbs, of the county. Mrs. Hames [sic] was born Sept. 15th 1836, was twice married. Her first husband was Col. Joseph B. Jones. She was a model wife and mother, a pure christian and bore her suffering as only a christian can; she was confined to her bed three months. She left five children. [transcriber's note: She married Joseph B. Jones on 2 Dec 1856, Davie County NC. In the 1860 census she is listed as age 23, living in her father's household with a son Chas. E. Jones age 2. She married William Preston Hanes on 8 May 1867. In the 1880 census they appear with four children: Willie L. 12, Mary E. 10, Sallie E. 6, and Joseph G. 2.]
