Dobbs/Greene County, NC - Winsor Dixon/Holliday Collection ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WINSOR DIXON/HOLLIDAY COLLECTION This Collection is housed at Perkins Library, Duke University and was copied by Judy Geller and Ann Kahn and abstracted by Martha Marble for the Lenoir Archives. The copied papers in the Collection can not be placed at Heritage Place because of the restrictions of Duke but it can be abstracted for the internet under the current copyright laws. Although it is called the Windsor Dixon Collection at Duke we have renamed it for the archives site as most of the documents belonged to the Holliday family. We appreciate Judy and Ann taking the time to copy this Collection at their expense. Some of the original documents were too light to provide a readable copy and the originals will have to be double checked at some point and corrections and additions made. I have placed the deeds in chronological order and separated them from the one will, letters, and court records. There are also documents from the Hookerton Christian Church but most of them are religious in nature and have not been included. The ones with names will be transcribed. Windsor Dixon was the son of Willis and Sarah (Sally) Holliday Dixon. Sarah’s parents were Samuel and Elizabeth Duggan Holliday who moved from Tyrrell County to Dobbs County. Most of Sarah’s siblings moved on South, which might account for these original deeds and papers remaining in her possession. INDENTURE This Indenture is not readable on the copy. It was a Dobbs County instrument and appears to be only ½ of the original. The grantee appears to be a Holliday, probably Samuel END OF DOCUMENT INDENTURE 9 September 1767 – Dobbs County – Benjamin Lewis of Dobbs, planter to Micajah Rice, planter – 60 pds reclamation money for 200 acres - parcel in Dobbs on the NS of Great Cotentney being part of a patent granted to said Benjamin Lewis for 336 acres on 17 August 1756 – adj Micajah Rice, Henry Edmonds – including the plantation were Lewis now lives and all the land of the patent except a 136 acres that Lewis sold to Samuel Edmonds – includes all houses, meadows, ways water and water courses, timber Benjamin Lewis WIT James Handcock, Mark Hardin, Elizabeth Hardin April Court 1768 on oath of James Handcock – Martin Caswell, Clk Enrolled Liber MC No 2 page 145 – 10 May 1768 – Martin Caswell, Regr.
