Dobbs County, NC - Court Records File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Grace Williamson Turner Transcribed and posted by Lori Price Cobb (jhcobb@iquest.net) New Bern District Superior Court Criminal Action Papers D.S.C.R.206.326.1 1761-1775 (Broken Series) 1777-1784 State No. Carolina } Dobbs County } The Deposition of John Sileven Taken on Oath Before one William Hooker a Justice assigned to Keep the Peace for s'd County; This 16th Day of March 1782; This Deponent Saith that He was at Hardy Powels the Eavening Before that he & Hardy Powell had been Washing their feet by the fire in the House; thought he heard Something out, Took it to be Horses, as he & Hardy was Siting by the fire Hardy was Shot willfuly by Some Body with Leaden Shot and force of powder as he sat by in the House Rais'd up went to the Bed fell on it and was Dead in Two or Three Minuts; That he Saw nobody present any Gun, only heard the Report of Gun & powder as it Killed Hardy Powell, as he took it to be; who fired the Gun he knoeth not near about one & half Hour in night the next morning he saw a mans Track to & from the House where the Gun fired and that he saw the stain of powder on the House and further said not; Duly sworn to the Day above Writen Before Will.
