Dobbs County, NC - Court Records File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Grace Williamson Turner Transcribed and posted by Lori Price Cobb (jhcobb@iquest.net) Dec 26th 1793 To the Honourable the GenL Assembly of the State of North Carolina The petition of John Williams of Glasgow County Humbly Sheweth Theat your petitioner some years ago had the ____ fortune, by an Accident with a gun, to lose one his Hands and since by an Accident of ___ have been reduced to a unfavoable and helpless state of body being burnt almost to death, by which means, his other arms are now grown down to his body, so that he is rendered altogether unable to labour for the support of his family, and having veen at very considerable expenses towards employees Doctors, under whose hands he has been for Two or three years, and having a wife & family of small Children and but little property, that is a small piece of Land, small Stock, so that it's with the greatest difficulty that he is able to support his family and Glasgow Court having escempted your said petitioner from the payment of ____ to himself by no further are Authorized to do. Therefore your said petitioner Most humbly beg your Honourable body to free and exempt him your said petitioner from the payment of taxes on all his taxable property as well as himself. Your petitioner as in duly bound will pray. Dec 9 1793 John Williams I cirtify that what is set forth in the above Petition is Just & True ____ Williams Cle (On reverse) Petition of Jno Williams The House of Commons 28th Dec 193 read & referred to the Committee of Prop _______ By order J Hunt ____ In Senate 26th Dec 1793 read & referred as by the House of Commons T Haywood Hooker Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the Authority of the Same, that it shall and may be lawful for any person or persons injured by Neglect, misconduct or misbehaviors in _____ of any of this ____ of the Superior or County Courts, Clerks and ______ in Equity, Registor, Entry-taken, ________ Sherriffs or Constables to institute a just or ________ against the said officer, as any of them and their secretaries when there respective bonds for the due performance of their duties in office in the name of the person or persons to whom the said bonds are made payable without any _________. And be it futher enacted that the person or persons so injured and bringing suit as aforsaid _______ be and are hereby declared to be entitled to receive to his, her or their own _______ monies __ recovered in like manner as if the __________ had been entitled, in his her or their own name or names an assignment as heretofor required. Provided the person or persons so injured and bringing suit as aforesaid shall state in the Declaration as he, she or they are hereby authorized to do matters of ________ & sufficent to please the cort (in which each suit or suits may be brought) at whose instance and in whose behalf the same are brought. And be it further enacted taht any person or persons injured as aforesaid by any of the officers aforesaid may at his, her or their election bring an action on the case against such ___________ officers and recover damages for his, her or their injury as aforesaid, or an action of Debt as above directed. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid that all Clerks of the Superiors and County Courts, Clerks and Public Inspectors and _____ in Equity, Resitors and Surveryors, shall and they are hereby required to renew their several bonds for the faithful discharge of their duties in office with good and _________________ at the several and respective County wherein they have their appointment which shall be held after the first day of June next evening and once in every three years always thereafter.
