Dobbs County, NC - Deed Abstracts for Bell, Barnes, Harper, Edwards, Dickinson, Handley, Batchelor, Newsome & others ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I abstracted this microfilm at the local LDS library about 1/2 mile from my house in Olympia Fields. I would like to dedicate it to my great, great grandfather James Henry Bell, Sr., 55th North Carolina Infantry, Company A from Wilson County. He was wounded in the right arm on 5 May 1864 at The Battle of the Wilderness and died 24 May 1864 in one of the Confederate Hospitals in Lynchburg, Virginia and is buried in the Confederate Burial Ground in the Old City Cemetery in Lynchburg. The reason I am submitting this to the Wayne County site is that just about all these families end up in Wayne when Dobbs vanishes in 1790. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BELL, BARNES, HARPER, EDWARDS, DICKINSON, HANDLEY, BATCHELOR, NEWSOME and RELATED FAMILIES, PROPERTY AND NEIGHBORS IN DOBBS COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA, 1765 - 1797 as revealed in Land Grants from the Government of North Carolina. The title of the document assigned by the Dobbs County, NC Recording Clerk: ENTRIES OF CLAIMS FOR LANDS WITHIN THE COUNTY OF DOBBS, 1765 - 1797. Further, in the hand of the Dobbs County Clerk he designates numbers in five parts by specifying Item 1, Item 2, etc. The North Carolina Land Grant numbers assigned by the Dobbs Clerk are divided as follows: Number 1 #1 - 371; Number 2 #372 - 954; Number 3 #955 - 1780; Number 4 1- 180, 1 - 4; and Number 5 1- 112. I have only abstracted land grants for people bearing the surnames of my family plus adjoining land owners. Further, on the Bells and Harpers, I have added some of my other research including records from Wayne and other North Carolina and Virginia counties.
