Dobbs County, NC – Deeds – State to Benjamin Chance, 1782 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wayne County Deed Book 1, pg 155 – 640 acres State of North Carolina No. 270 To all to whom these presents shall come greeting know ye that we for and in consideration of the sum of fifty shillings for every hundred acres hereby granted paid into our Treasury by Benjamin Chance have given and granted and by their presents do hereby give and grant unto the said Benjamin Chance a tract of land containing six hundred & forty acres lying and being in our County of Dobbs on the Basus Swamp begining at Pasco Peeles corner a hickory in said swamp and in William Newsoms and Ezekiel Daniels line and runing along said line Wt 200 poles to a pine thence So 370 poles to a red oak then Et 360 poles to a Wt oak in the said Swamp thence down the various courses of the Swamp to the first station as by the plot hereunto annexed doth appear together with all woods waters mines minerals hereditaments and appurtenences of the said land belonging or appertaining to hold to the said Benjamin Chance his heirs and assigns forever yielding and paying to us such sums of money yearly or otherwise as our General Assembly from time to time may direct provided always that the said Benjamin Chance shall cause this grant to be registered in the Registers Office of our said County of Dobbs within twelve months from the date hereof otherwise the same shall be void and of no effect in Testimony whereof we have caused our great seal to be hereunto affixed Witness Alexander Martin Esquire Governor Captain General and Commander in Chief at Fairfield the 24th day of October in the seventh year of our Independence and in the year of our Lord 1782 Alex Martin ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
